Intended Audience

This educational activity is intended for pain medicine specialists and other allied health care professionals interested in interested in emerging and controversial topics in the practice of pain and pain management.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program participants will be able to:

  • Explain the epidemiology of the "opioid epidemic."
  • Identify risk factors for opioid addiction and evidence-based screening paradigms.
  • List the level of evidence for the use of chronic opioids in the treatment of pain from a variety of chronic conditions (i.e. chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatologic conditions, fibromyalgia, cancer pain, etc.).
  • Discuss treatment of opioid addiction.
  • Identify potential legal pitfalls that may arise when prescribing chronic opioid therapy.

Method of Participation

This program consists of lectures, enhanced by slide presentations, daily question and answer periods with ARS, and a digital syllabus. The course sessions will provide an update of current pain management practices. This program offers ample opportunity for the participants to interact one-on-one with the faculty throughout the conference
