The purpose of the Dannemiller Memorial Educational Foundation is to plan, develop and present exemplary continuing medical educational activities based on identified needs, in the most appropriate format, for physicians and other healthcare professionals, and through these educational activities, enhance the skills, knowledge and attitudes of physicians leading to better patient outcomes.
The goals of the CME program are as follows:
- To provide anesthesiologists and pain management physicians with comprehensive board review courses that enable them to prepare for the anesthesiology boards for certification and recertification;
- To provide anesthesiologists and pain management physicians with a wide array of educational activities that maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills, and qualifications which lead to better patient care and outcomes;
- To provide physicians in various specialties with scientifically rigorous and commercially balanced educational activities based on demonstrated educational needs on a national and worldwide basis;
- To partner with other organizations to bring quality, continuing medical education in various specialty areas to physicians nationwide and worldwide;
- To continue to develop better mechanisms and strategies to measure the needs of target audiences to whom the Dannemiller Foundation's educational activities are delivered;
- To expand the Foundation's assessment technologies to better determine the educational effectiveness of our educational activities;
- To continue to explore the frontiers of new technology to enable our CME activities to be delivered to physicians in ways that fit within their time and financial constraints;
- To meet or exceed the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the guidelines of the American Medical Association's Physician's Recognition Award (AMA/PRA).
The content of the Dannemiller Foundation's CME Program encompass all areas of medicine. The topics selected for CME activity development are based on the needs and interests of physician participants, the expert opinion of leaders in the field, and national or regional guidelines developed by recognized authorities. Needs will be determined through various tools, including but not limited to:
- Feedback from faculty and physician participants
- A continual review of multiple types of activity evaluation/outcomes study results
- Physician surveys and focus groups
- Literature searches on relevant topics
- National Clinical Guidelines
- The consensus of expert opinions from our faculty, Education Committee, Medical Specialty Review Committee and Content Review Committee.
Participants in educational activities provided by the Dannemiller Foundation are those physicians interested in updating their knowledge in the basic and clinical sciences upon which the practice of medicine is based, and upon which the practice of their particular specialty is based. Specialties that are targeted by the Dannemiller Foundation include, but are not limited to, anesthesiology, pain management, family practice, cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, and women's health.
CME activities provided by the Dannemiller Foundation include live symposia, board review courses, medical journals and enduring materials. Activities may consist of one or more of the following types of delivery mechanisms: didactic lectures by noted authorities, clinical workshops with direct hands-on participation by attendees, journal-based CME, monographs, newsletters, audio and video enduring materials, and computer based activities that include the Internet. The type of activity selected is designed to assure that the activity's educational needs and learning objectives are met. Activities provided by the Dannemiller Foundation may be directly sponsored or jointly sponsored with organizations that operate in a manner consistent with our overall CME Mission. Joint sponsors must agree to develop activities in accordance with our policies and procedures and those of the ACCME.
As a result of these educational activities, the Dannemiller Foundation fosters the continuing professional development of health care providers. These educational activities are intended to enhance physician and other health care professionals' awareness and understanding and influence their behavior for the purpose of improving patient outcomes. The Dannemiller Foundation is committed to assessing the impact of each CME activity and the overall CME Program through various appropriate methods, including post-activity participant evaluations, faculty evaluations, follow-up outcomes studies with activity participants, pre- and post-testing, and focus group discussions with participants at live activities. The results of CME activities sponsored by the Dannemiller Foundation will be assessed as follows:
- Live Activities: participant satisfaction, pre-and/or post-activity knowledge assessment, self-reported change in behavior
- Enduring Materials: participant satisfaction, post-activity knowledge assessment, self-reported change in behavior
- Internet Activities: participant satisfaction, post-activity knowledge assessment, self-reported change in behavior
